Burdette Gallery

A bit about the Gallery

The Gallery has been on the same location for about 28 years. The Gallery was built and operated by Paul and Dolly Burdette and family. Paul Burdette is a world-class, Award winning wood carver specialising in detailed studies of birds. Dolly Burdette is an accomplished oil painter and pieces of artwork by both of them are still on display in the Gallery. The Burdettes retired and sold the Gallery at the end of 1999.

The Burdette Gallery is now owned by Dr. Cormack, a retired Veterinarian and has had many Veterinary clinics in the greater Toronto area. He is well known in the Orangeville/Mono Mills area as the owner of the Tralee Veterinary Clinic and Estate. On this 150 acre property with fields, trails and ponds is the home of The Cormack Carriage Collection with over 100 antique horse drawn carriages, wagons and sleighs on display. Dr. Cormack has many horses on his estate including his team of white Irish Draft Horses that he competes in the Royal Winter Fair with every November at the CNE in Toronto. Tralee is also host to the Canadian Carriage Driving Classic competition held every year in July. There are also banquet facilities on the property where many weddings and special events are held. Dr Cormack is a colourful and charming man who is often at the Gallery in the afternoon enjoying a cup of tea. He is always willing to share with listeners tales of adventures in the Air Force during World War Two, stories of his horses and carriages, travels, his Art purchases or his dreams for the Gallery.

Now with Dr. Cormack owning the Gallery he is directing the same amount of energy that built Tralee into rebuilding the Burdette Gallery. He is developing the already lovely piece of property into showpiece of natural beauty. The augmentation of ponds, gardens and trails to the Gallery property have made it more pleasant for visitors. There are picnic areas where families can enjoy the peace and quiet of the country during Gallery hours. While visiting and exploring the grounds you may be lucky enough to see some of the abundance of wildlife on the property. There are many deer, rabbits,  and foxes on the property. There are also a seemingly endless number of wild birds from Canada Geese, Wood Ducks, Wild Turkeys, Hawks, Owls and countless varieties of songbirds. There are also many different types of trees, shrubs, flowers and mushrooms to be found.

The Burdette Gallery hosts a number of Gala events each year. Gallery Shows feature many Artists present displaying their newest original works of Art. All events were widely publicized and well attended by the public. Local papers and the Toronto Sun published articles supporting the reopening of the Burdette Gallery and praising the large collection of original Artwork.
